Trainers/Coaches I KNOW you have never heard of…..

1856

I was inspired by the recent trend of posting “coaching lists” to write this lil diddy. These lists are usually titled ‘the best trainers’, ‘badass trainers’, and my personal fave ‘ trainers you’ve never heard of‘. The last one is my favorite because ….well….we have all heard of them since we all peruse the internet pretty regularly.

Sometimes the internet can make you ‘popular’ for all the wrong reasons…..

Anyway, I wanted to list some trainers/coaches that I KNOW you’ve never heard of just to let you know that there is a world out there where people don’t blog daily, sell e-books about unproven programs, promote get rich schemes or training shortcut secrets etc. These are folks who get up early in the morning, many of whom putting in 60-70+ hours a week doing what they love to do…..get their student-athletes better. Let’s just call this a list of whom I consider unsung heroes in my field. Sure, some of them may be legends in my circles (collegiate strength and conditioning) but in this age of internet gurus and self promotion and I figured since I was lucky enough to have somewhat of an internet presence, I would get on my soapbox.

Rest assured, if you are a trainer (even if you never deal with a single athlete), you would get better just by shadowing these folks for a day…this is the real value of real-life practitioners…folks who’s livelihood depend on how good they are at their craft.

Write this Sh*t down!

Let’s start with some amazing peeps at the University of Minnnesota shall we? How about Cal Dietz, Dave Schueller, and Sara Wiley.

Some legends who just got their MSCC honors like Roger Marandino who is now the head S&C coach for the Colts, Pat Ivey who is doing amazing things at the University of Missouri, and Nate Moe doing his thing at South Dakota State University.

Guys and gals who have put in more hours getting people BETTER than most people will ever dream of like Ron McKefferey at the Univ. of Tennessee, Scott Bird at the Univ. of Missouri, Michael Doscher at Valdosta State, Greg Werner at James madison Univ., Alissa Goldman at the Univ. of Virginia, Jerry Schmidt who creates MONSTERS at the Univ. of Oklahoma, and Ethan Reeve at Wake Forest who has influenced just about every S&C coach my age or younger in some way.

Lastly there are some AMAZING ‘youngsters’ who are the future of collegiate S&C like Ryan Russell at Arkansas State University, Nate Brookreson at Eastern Washington Univ., Mark Candido at Washington State Univ., Donnell Boucher at Citadel,  and Scott Thom at CAL who fire me up every single time I talk to them.

No, no no….I didn’t forget my boy Todd Wright at the Univ. of Texas, it’s just that Todd, like myself have had the good fortune to get in front of the public eye and out of the dungeon once in a while so many of you are familiar with Todd and his awesome training (if you don’t, google that sh*t!).

This is literally a SHORT LIST as the number of amazing coaches out there is off the charts. these people play such a role, not only in developing the physical aspect of these kids but by BUILDING CHARACTER and building better people. This is part of the ‘bigger picture’ that I often talk about when talking about my role as a collegiate S&C coach.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate all of my friends and mentors in this field who have internet presences like Mike Boyle, Alwyn Cosgrove, Gray Cook, Mark Verstagen, Josh Henkin, Chris Frankel, Diane Vives, Rachel Cosgrove, J.C. Santana, Lee Burton, Joe Dowdell, Dan John, Brett Jones, Martin Rooney and many others….all of whom should be on your ‘go to trainer’ lists. I just wanted to expose everyone to perhaps, a whole other world that exists out there.

Credibility…..often overlooked on the internet

DO WORK PEOPLE!
